150 years ago, the East Coast of the United States was covered in American chestnuts. It was said that a squirrel could walk from New England to Georgia solely on the branches of American chestnuts. The tree produced so many nuts that it became a key food source for both humans

Further research, it seems it was a high-control door-to-door book sales MLM with some whacky theology and a few hundred labor lawsuits. Keep you in a house and if you sell enough books, Jesus comes back!.Blogs about it are concerned mostly with the theology, not the lawsuits.🫠.

@Jedi_Master_ The leader stayed at another house. I got uncomfortable after awhile, walked a few miles with bags very early in the morning, got a cab, bought a ticket at the airport. Not much drama. My brother (paid for the trip) did have the sense to make sure I had a credit card.

@wildcat_of The guy from the house translating was about 20, and I could tell he was arguing with him that I was underage and needed to go back home. I later learned the older guy was a pretty big deal in the movement.

@wildcat_of Older man from Brazil came into town to check on the mission, he didn't speak English and only a few in the house could translate. I have a vivid memory of sitting under a banyan tree, and him being pretty forceful with me that the Lord told him I was supposed to go to Brazil.

@wildcat_of The Local Church Movement. Really nice folks! Stayed in a little house with ~30 young adults. Got up at 4am and the girls worked and prayed and sang, then we loaded into a minivan to pray with people in town. It was fun until it was time to leave.
