Basically the entire academic system is stacked to reward white men doing work that interests white men and maintains white male supremacy.

“There’s so much literature...about women publishing less...and spending all their time doing academic housework. We found…a potentially new type of bias. It’s not against the individual woman; it’s against the subject areas that are dominated by women.”

Please don't use 'power analysis' when you mean 'sample size justification'. Power analysis is only one approach to sample size justification ( https://t.co/MBAqD1QJYG) - accuracy and feasibility (!) are often more in line with the actual inferential goal of a study.

It's a mistake to think that the only wins in the #PhD worth celebrating are the big flashy events - submission, acceptance, awards. Here are 30 other wins in the PhD you might think are "no big deal" 🧵 #phdlife #phdchat #academicchatter #academictwitter #phdtips

Are you preparing to teach research methods this spring? In case you haven't seen it, here's my annotated catalog of the Netflix show, 100 Humans--Clips you can use when you teach the course! Most clips are short and very engaging:

According to the latest CDC COVID-19 wastewater data, we are currently in the second-biggest surge of the pandemic. It will peak in the next week, with ~2 million infections per day. During this surge, ~100 million people total (~1 in 3 people in the US) will likely get COVID.

I just can’t wrap my head around a good reason for this one path. For those ppl destined to be a scientist, not a group leader, 6 years of grad and 2-8 y of postdoc makes no sense. Their full pay and benefits should have started right out of undergrad.

Doing a PhD costs, time, energy, and resources.  What has been a hidden cost of doing a PhD you weren't aware of when you started it?   (Mine was the mental drain it would take, to the point where I didn't have the energy to do basic stuff at home in the evenings)

It's negotiation time on the TT psych job market! Earlier today @feadeh asked some questions....we have answers. About ~ 120 job market veterans told us about their offers (back in 2020). First up, salary! R1's paid the most (esp b-schools) 1/n

If you've fallen out of practice of wearing a mask, this would be a good week to start again! COVID rates are rising because of a new variant, and because many people will have gotten sick over Thanksgiving. Your best protection is wearing a high quality mask.

Lecturers should have formal education training. Being good at your field as a researcher doesn't make you good at teaching it. Why do we pay thousands for courses taught by people without edu qualifications when we expect school and pre-school teachers to have edu quals?

We've talked about healthcare collapse a number of times over the years and I think it's important that collapse looks and feels different depending on where in the puzzle your piece fits.
