@TheCut Basically the formula for cringe seems to be: vulnerability + self-defensiveness + underlying insecurity = cringe post that never ages well.

@TheCut Anyway, it makes me full-body cringe, for obvious reasons, even though I've written things that are objectively stupider and more embarrassing. And I wanted to know why. So I interviewed a bunch of writers.

@TheCut To be fair, my argument was more complex than the headline suggested. It wasn't that I admired their marriage per se — more how their relationship was less focused on equity and more on fulfilling each other's specific needs. Which I...guess is true, in a broad sense? idk

@TheCut This was written before Trump won the presidential nomination in 2016. Melania was getting a lot of hate. I was engaged, and having weird feelings about it bc I thought it meant I wasn't feminist anymore? I dunno. Anyway, all of that culminated in this...insanely stupid piece.

I had a meltdown yesterday after a woman yelled at me on the street for pulling my dogs leash so he wouldn’t eat a chicken bone and she called me a bad mom and it just like tore me apart inside. So this was a nice antidote to that

He's a beautiful, sweet, funny, charming, sharp, silly kid. He loves the Knicks and graphic novels and Disney villains and pizza and playing basketball. I am just a mom using this stupid horrible website asking for any help at all to get that kid back.

So if ANYONE at all has any resources or connections in the PANS/PANDAS community, or knows anyone with PANS/PANDAS, I would so greatly appreciate hearing from you. We need to know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Because it really doesn't feel like it right now.

In the past I have been very hesitant to share personal details on here (for, like a million reasons) but I have come to realize I have a semi-large platform and I may as well take advantage of it. And we have hit a wall. My baby is sick, and we don't know what to do.

There's not a lot of research on PANDAS, which has led to many people either disbelieving the diagnosis/ exploiting terrified parents. Recently, I was charged $620 for a 20-minute phone call with a "specialist." We are totally emotionally drained.

As you might imagine, this has caused tremendous stress for him and my family. Most days, he wakes up crying, asking me why no one can help him get rid of "the Bug." (Thats what we call the OCD.) He is 8 years old. He doesn't get why his brain basically became inflamed overnight.

PANDAS is associated with aggression, mood swings, decreased focus, depression, and cognitive decline. He is also autistic/ADHD, so his struggles have exacerbated tenfold. He has good days and bad days, but he has basically been a totally different kid for the past few months.
