I teach a class on scientific legal evidence. What peer review is does come as a shock to many students. I don’t think they come in believing that it is a replication attempt, but they do tend to think that it’s some kind of in-depth audit.
How old were you when you learned “peer review” isn’t “we followed your procedure and replicated the results of your experiment” and is instead “ya I read it; looks like it could be legit” ?.

A bit outside of my usual lane: a short reaction piece for @Meta_Psy on @peder_isager-@annaveer-@lakens's proposal re: deciding what studies to prioritize for replication. I focus on the potential legal impact of soc. sci. research results and how it might be taken into account.
Commentary on our @Meta_Psy RVcn paper, discussing how legal impact is relevant for replication value. Wow, this was a thrill to read. I learned so much. Thanks for writing it @edithbeerdsen!.
