“The traditions associated with Advent are both ancient and fluid, but the point is to celebrate the Messiah, to reflect on the Word made flesh, and to point us all to the hope we have only through Christ.” — @edhyndman

Whether or not your church participates in Advent traditions, this season can be one of reflection, thanksgiving, and hope.

Going on a girls’ trip this weekend with women (all millennials) who don’t use Venmo. It was suggested we all bring a checkbook instead.

The tool knows it’s not “correct,” but you know it’s moving and that’s more important. Tools can check for grammar and spelling but not heart and beauty. Use them but don’t let them dictate how you write.

A good reminder for limitations of online grammar and writing tools: put in a beautiful piece of writing from an accomplished writer and watch how much the tool wants to change it.

My mom: “Your dad’s phone is messed up. Y’all are going to have to fix it. Here’s what happened: We were trying to figure out how to work the air fryer on our new oven. And somehow our oven has the Internet now and his phone doesn’t.”

Things that are embarrassing as an adult for no reason: - when your shoelaces come untied in public - telling other adults that it’s your birthday

Just discovered this. Feels important to share. Covers of CCM classics (some duets!), the best Veggie Tales songs, and “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” of course.

Working on moving from one blogging platform to another in hopes of writing more in the new year, so I’m going through my archives. 😬 I’ve learned a lot during this journey. For example, I’d forgotten that I was once considered (by my coworkers at least) to be a sports writer.

Today I referred to a Bible translation simply by its publication date, if you wanted to know what cool lingo the Bible study editors are using these days.

Realized just now that I still use the mnemonic “General Electric Power Company” for finding Ephesians in my Bible. I’ve heard other, more fun examples over the years, but that one stuck from my Bible Drill days. I’m curious—do you use a mnemonic for those Epistles? Which one?

Mowed in vertical stripes today instead of horizontal because I heard somewhere that it’s healthier for the grass if you switch things up, and I guess that’s something I care about now.
