“Find the data, show the data, there is no such thing as alternative facts” ….but for Native people the data genocide being perpetrated effectively limits the “facts”, and that is something we need to talk about! @echohawkd3 #HEP2024

I’m grateful for POC working to undo structural racism like Dr.Leaphart. Thomas Jefferson perpetuated one of biggest genocidal policies of Indigenous people and a legacy of chattel slavery and rape. Yet his name is prevalent. We need folks in these systems breaking them down!

I challenge our health equity community to do better
I’m struggling with the continuous use of “food deserts.” As a Hopi elder shared with me, Indigenous people thrived in deserts that always provided food systems since time immemorial. To achieve health equity we have to step out of colonial ideas of food systems. #HEP2024

My latest story for @Stacker explores how Indigenous data warriors like @native4data & @echohawkd3 are fighting for data sovereignty: Indigenous systems for gathering and using data in spite of a system built to exclude them. Read it here:

I recently sat down for an interview with @RWJF to talk about Indigenous data and the importance of reclaiming ownership of our own data. We do not need decisions made about us or without us. It’s only with us and for us. Read more here:

When Black scholars get asked to do unnecessary stuff, we should respond with: "that work may shorten my telomere lengths and affect my cortisol levels, which puts me at greater risk for heart disease. So the answer is no! "
