Just started to go through these designs that Sydney (NSW) released as a pattern house catalogue, with similar logic to the Canadian one. It's shocking how much more beautiful and urban these layouts are compared to the low density house typology Canada is promoting.

1/12 The WS story shows Rustadβs desperation & fracture lines inside BCC. It says heβs met fed Liberal operatives, including Bruce Clark, as pressure mounts for him to step aside, and insiders say heβs seeking outside help to survive. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

Dear City of Vancouver Planning: A thread about how kooky it is that you can provide no data on what your city plans are actually accomplishing. I've been trying for about a week to find out how many new apartments have been permitted/built under the Grandview-Woodland 2016 plan

The key feature of the classic 2 & 3-story rowhouse is that itβs smaller and therefore more affordable. Thatβs what made it a bedrock of American workforce housing. When quality homes are compact and share walls, land is used efficiently and maintenance stays manageable.

This beautiful, gut-wrenching piece by journalist Tatiana Schlossberg about her mortal struggle with leukemia is a reminder to all of us not to take life for granted. Every day is a gift. π for Tatiana and her family.

When I was diagnosed with leukemia, my first thought was that this couldnβt be happening to me, to my family.

Once kids are 5 years old ... Schools become THE dominant decision point both in terms of location and quality If the public school isn't good enough and you cannot afford private school, there is no floorplan or facade that can make up for that. And even if the assigned public
@bobbyfijan Why the assumption that people want to move from a starter home. My suggestion would be a basement level with a playroom and another bed/bath where an older child can move to. That way the smaller beds can become offices as the kids age.

Easy viral urbanism content: complain that no one is building medium-density buildings at scale anymore Great urban neighborhoods (that can support a great public school, that are walkable, that have a wide range of units) are made up of medium-density buildings. many people
Jacobs was right, and the ongoing American urban tragedy is that no one is reproducing the golden medium density of the Village

Likewise ... urban ownership of dogs should be *heavily* taxed
97% of NYC on-street parking is FREE. Charging a measly $5/day per space would raise $5 billion annually. Or $10/day to raise $10 billion. That money could go towards sidewalk improvements, traffic calming, bike lanes, transit lanes... all sorts of good stuff.

In a devastating essay, Tatiana Schlossberg, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy, reveals that she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia just hours after she gave birth to her daughter, and that she has less than a year to live.
