Our life expectancy has been decreasing since the early 90s. We have more hospitals and medical technology but people we call doctors and nurses are bottom of the barrel quality. Basically went to school to pass exams for the prestige and enjoy public sector employment.

From med school doctors are taught to adjust to the poor health care system in Ghana. Go and say you’ll request a CT scan during an exam for someone in Ghana and see if you’ll be given the marks. A doctor in Ghana will work based on what is available period.

My first day on duty;
A neonate, barely a day old, had apnoenic episodes throughout the night. I came in the morning to take over from a colleague who had been bagging throughout the night. I spent the whole day standing by the incubator bagging the child while my boss called 1/
You get a newborn who is struggling to breathe and as you are bagging you will be begging the child to breathe because there’s no ventilator. We can’t bag for hours. After sometime we will have to let you go.
I can’t count how many we have had to ‘let go’.
Ghana failed them.
