I don’t post here much anymore but the world should know that I’m proud of the accomplishments of recent PhD graduates Dr Jennifer Whetter and Dr Minhua Cao! The first @UWMadison graduates of the @BorosLab !

This was a really tough project with a ton of new techniques including RNAseq, mutant generation and sequencing to elucidate mechanism and possible resistance at the in vitro and in vivo level - Axia prevailed & put together a comprehensive story that took 3 years to develop. 2/2.

Two tour-de-force manuscripts for @AxiaMarlin to close out her postdoc with us. Check out two very different Siderophore stories. In @ChemicalScience we elucidate the mechanism of action of Ga-sideromycins and provide guiding principles for future compound design strategies. 1/2.

We are generally in the “bespoke chelator camp”, but here we find that a small amount of angular flexibility of one donor arm, combined with a restrictive ternary ligand pocket makes for a fully structurally homologous radiochelate.

“Gut Ding will Weile haben!” an absolute Tour de force led by @Jenn_Chem of uncovering how small changes to molecular geometry and donor atom identity have consequences for the chelation of radifluorination and room temp Sc-44, Y-86 and Lu-177 chelation.

Field trip with our Nuclear and Radiochemistry class yesterday to the @UWMadison reactor! Absolute highlight was to finally see Cherenkov radiation with my own eyes. ☢️

Next goals are to adapt the chemistry to targeted systems for F-18, Sc-44 PET and Lu-177 therapy. ☢️ some day, in humans…?.

This expansive study was enabled by our move close to the Sc-44 source at @wiscmedphys produced by the cyclotron group led by Jon Engle.
