This math is also stupid. If every ad features 12 people and everyone has a 4% chance of being black (the actual number in the substack post), 39% of ads will feature at least one black person. The article the substack is referencing includes one black dude in a group of like 8.

But we have to be careful demonizing any ethnic group, including but not limited to Israelis, particularly with deceptive information. Many will disagree on how to resolve this, but making both sides hate the other more will not solve it.

We should be critical of Israeli policy, particularly given that the US provides funding for them. Palestinans in Israel deserve full rights and housing and those forced out deserve the right to come back. Israel's current response in gaza is far too brutal.

There are huge problems of unlicensed mopeds. Let's fix that first, and then work to create a safe bike network to make everyone, most importantly pedestrians, safer.

Community board meetings already favor those who can make them. Don't bias them even more towards the bullies who show up in person and harass people.

Hey @MarkLevineNYC, I am at MCB4 right now, and the few people from the public who showed up in person were constantly disruptive, interrupting, speaking well past their time. While those on zoom had the rules enforced since they could be muted. We should go back to all virtual.

Just spoke in favor of this plan, but noted that we need wider sidewalks. With that space we can have:.- outdoor dining on sidewalks, not streets.- containerized trash.- citibike stations.and ensure that the following don't disrupt pedestrian flow:.- benches.- trees.- bus stops.

Shout out to @RebeccaLamorte for calling out the absurdity of this debate on allowing AMC to serve alcohol at 11 pm. We have spent way too much time on this despite a decisive majority moving wanting to move on.

Can't be sure, but I think someone said AMC shouldn't be allowed to sell alcohol because it is hard to tell the difference between people of other races. .

It is 10:30 pm. It is hour 4 of the upper east side community board meeting. We are now voting on whether or not to approve street fairs. which already happened four days ago.

One surprise so far was someone who spoke against congestion pricing, but made sure to highlight they were in support of protected bike lanes. Contrast that with the next speaker who spoke against congestion pricing, but said cyclists should pay a congestion tax.

Finally some voices against congestion pricing. One concerned that it will increase congestion outside of the zone (which is not borne out in the MTA models).

Another heart wrenching testimony, this time from the mother of the roommate of Carling Mott. Again appreciate the people who are the verge of tears still showing up to fight for the safety of the neighborhood.

Also want to thank @surajpatelnyc for speaking in support, along with touting congestion pricing. He earned my vote last time around and I will continue to support likeminded candidates.

At the Upper East Side (CB8) Community Board meeting, and those present so far have been in support of protected bike lanes. However a particular powerful anecote from someone who lost their partner in a car crash stands out and I am very thankful as it was clearly hard to share.
