Thanks to @NEJMEvidence for the chance to share our framework on the risks of IDU and opportunities to mitigate harm. A privilege to work with and learn from @katherinemrich, the engine and the brains behind this operation. The future of ID/addiction medicine is bright. 👇
What are the mechanisms (structural, social, physiologic) that result in complications of injection drug use?. And how can we improve health among individuals who inject drugs? . @dsolsMD and I share a framework and a review of current evidence in a new 2 part series. 1/x.

Lyme disease - just the sort of twitter action I need in my life, thanks Jake. While we are here though. required reading from the lay media for all of us living in New England:
Day #11 ID Learning: Lyme disease is challenging - it's a multisystem illness with nonspecific symptoms that presents from days to years after exposure. My go to table courtesy of @dsolsMD

Students in MA required to get flu shot this year. This is the kind of policy that can make a huge impact on public health. Let's hope that 1) other states follow suit and 2) this requirement sticks in subsequent years. @jabarocas @SaadOmer3 .

Flu season is around the corner. BUT if we maintain NPIs through the winter, we are likely to see a decrease in influenza this year. Can we use the lessons we learn from COVID-19 to decrease influenza morbidity and mortality in subsequent seasons?.
via @JAMA_current . @dsolsMD, @Dr_AmyKacin and I discuss the interaction of #COVID19 and #flu. For the upcoming virus season, *all* ppl w/upper respiratory sx will require testing for #SARSCoV2 +/- flu. Does your lab have the capacity to handle it?.

My favorite moment from our @BWH_IDinPCARE course today:.In her fantastic talk on CAP, my dear friend and colleague, Mary Montgomery, threw some shade at trainees for overzealous ordering of procalcitonin. At BWH they would NEVER. Right @PaulSaxMD @BrighamChiefs @JakeJohnsonMD ?.
