Anxiety can be caused by weak instructional methods. Good teaching = less bad at math. Anxiety can also come from weak motivational methods. Not all kids want to discovery-learn it for its own sake, not when repeatedly failing around other kids who have long passed them by.

Math anxiety: meta analysis of longitudinal studies suggests a bi-directional relationship. Being bad at math makes you anxious when doing it AND being anxious about it impairs performance. https://t.co/cUheLRD4CU

Revision Clock ā° Excellent example of retrieval practice from one of my N5 pupils. 5 minutes per topic, write everything you know without notes. Check against summary pages after, anything missed or wrong is where you should focus your revision!

It's time to remove laptops from classrooms. 24 experiments: Students learn more and get better grades after taking notes by hand than typing. It's not just because they're less distracted—writing enables deeper processing and more images. The pen is mightier than the keyboard.

ELA standards just get slightly more complex every year so that kids are taught practically the same lesson about character motivations and multiple perspectives in 1st as they are in 12th, but with harder texts. It’s a weird way to organize a subject, confusing lots of teachers.

ā€œAcademic accommodations for anxiety convey two harmful messages. First, they imply that the feared situation is truly dangerous. Public speaking, testing, or lunch with classmates are too risky for a student. Second, they suggest that the student can’t withstand the distress.

The I–We–You model works because it matches how the brain actually learns. I → reduces cognitive load with clear modelling We → builds strong mental models through guided practice You → only then do students work independently with confidence It’s not hand-holding. It’s

The Science of Reading isn’t a slogan, it’s a body of evidence about how children actually learn to read. Decodable readers, explicit phonics, and a clear instructional path aren’t optional extras; they’re the foundation. So why are so many schools still relying on leveled

Strong reading starts with strong phonics. Segmenting, blending and manipulating sounds aren’t just early-years skills; they are the mental tools we all use when we meet an unfamiliar word. Adults still break words apart, test the sounds, and put them back together. Phonics gives

Going to give these a good try tomorrow! I love the visual of retrieval and the second one where students write an answer without any question... Let's see! šŸ’ https://t.co/U8NHXnA2kQ

My intuition was wrong: independent reading doesn’t make you a stronger reader. Being a stronger reader leads to more independent reading. 🤯 #education #reading #teachersoftiktok #literacy
