Delighted to see the two new species we discovered featured as 'Microbes of the Month'! One is named for Ireland and the other for the students integral to its discovery as part of the Wild Yeast project which aims to introduce these young scientists to microbiological techniques
Introducing our Microbes of the Month for October, Cyberlindnera hibernica and Barnettozyma discipulorum! The two novel yeast species were discovered from forest soil samples collected in County Cork, Ireland, by students at University College Dublin.

A great day for Irish science, and credit to @lawlessj for pushing for CERN membership for many years and making it a reality today as Minister. It's a long time coming - the first campaign to join I recall was back when I was studying particle physics myself in the last century!

Having commuted on e-bikes for 25 years it amazes me how little attention they get from media or policymakers. The future of city transport is not electric cars - it’s electric bikes. Increasingly commuters agree & the best selling electric vehicle on the planet is the e-bike...
A disruptive transport technology is rapidly changing cities across the rich world: the humble bicycle. There are three factors behind this two-wheeled renaissance https://t.co/nxsnvZKcEw Photo: Getty Images

I was honoured to host the new members night in the United Arts Club for the second year running. We had an amazing cohort of 50 people in, who've all joined in the last 12 months, making Ireland's arts club their own. If you are interested in joining see: https://t.co/AqjR7pkSW0

Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.

Morning. After visiting few proud foreign cities recently from Vilnius to Bilbao, the dereliction and shabbiness of Dublin is shocking, and getting worse. We need to sort this out quickly, with the right financial incentives. Here's a few ideas. https://t.co/oqolCWGw8j

Incentives to developers do work. Take the example of Parliament Street, in the heart of the city

Very positive to see follow through on last year's Dublin City Taskforce and real movement towards rejuvenating our capital city. Particularly welcome that "derelict sites will be converted into high-density residential areas where homes for essential workers will be a priority"
The establishment of a new agency to oversee the rejuvenation of Dublin City Centre has been approved by Government https://t.co/9pMmK279OO

Cabinet approved Dublin Taskforce implementation today! A great moment for Dublin, to transform the core of our City…and quickly. A Special Purpose Vehicle in DCC will drive implementation under an independent board. Thanks to Taskforce, and to Government.

Dublin City Council chief says he's received no extra money yet to roll out the actions recommended by the Taoiseach’s Taskforce for Dublin. Councillors said they feel the city was just used as the backdrop for a pre-election PR campaign.

Ireland's associate membership of @CERN will unlock vast benefits for our research & innovation ecosystem, with direct benefits for Irish education & companies. Read our earlier statement from @ucddublin leaders in related sectors https://t.co/5Y4Y1SELYg

Minister @lawlessj today secured the Dáil approval needed for Ireland to join the European Organization for Nuclear Research, @CERN, as an Associate Member. “Today’s vote is the culmination of a long campaign, both nationally and personally, for Ireland to join CERN"
