What's next: - Is correction of this circadian misalignment is relevant to treatment outcomes? More longitudinal studies are needed! - Circadian phase measures are costly and burdensome- are there better ways to detect circadian abnormalities e.g. mathematical modelling of phase?

What's new: - The first study in mood disorders to look at 3 different biological phase markers in tandem - Individuals presented with a diverse range of individual phase abnormalities - Relative timing of melatonin and temperature rhythms may be key features linked to symptoms

Key findings: - 23% of youth with emerging mood disorders had internal misalignment where 2 or 3 of the circadian rhythms we measured were out of sync (phase angles>2SD of controls) - Greater circadian misalignment on some measures was associated with greater depression severity

Does circadian dysrhythmia drive the switch into high or low activation states in bipolar I disorder? https://t.co/dymHJiROx1 Summary of evidence that circadian perturbations may drive key switches between major mood-motor states; @mirandarwolpert @NIMHDirector @CircadianClocks

Based on the reviewed evidence, our view is that circadian dysrhythmia is a plausible driver of transitions into high- and low-activation states and deserves prioritisation in research in bipolar...

Getting bright light in the day is as important as avoiding light at night. We looked at outdoor light exposure in >400,000 people - more light: better mood, less risk of depression, lower antidepressant use, better sleep. Get those free photons! 🌞 https://t.co/ioocIHLvWm

With the weekend here- time spent in outdoor light 🌞 = GOOD for your health. Study by @circadian247 & co found reduced risk for low mood & depression, ⬆️ happiness, greater ease of getting up, ⬇️ tiredness, & ⬇️insomnia the more people got outdoor light.

Our latest paper presents the case for disrupted circadian rhythms as an active ingredient in depressive disorders. Led by @JacobJCrouse – see thread for an excellent summary. Including the voices of young people with #livedexperience has been so important to shape our approach!

We're almost there! With tomorrow's winter solstice we can start looking forward to more light & better #circadian rhythms. But regulating light isn't just about bouncing out of bed in the morning- research shows why body clocks matter in #mentalhealth . https://t.co/CVLCeK16sY
