Had a fun moment today realizing my most-viewed YouTube video (70K views!) is a short reel on expectations vs. reality for environmental engineers. Love seeing interest in this interdisciplinary field. If you’re curious, check out the 10-sec short here: https://t.co/iItJWPffgC

🍺This week @Newsweek spotlighted @JennyHopRed’s “Hold My Beer” study, showing how PFAS in your pint links back to local water quality. Read the article:
newsweek.com
Beers with the highest concentrations of PFAS, also known as forever chemicals, were found in two states.

Really excited for this!
We’re proud to announce the keynote speakers and program for the Cell Symposia: Chemical solutions for a sustainable plastics future: Cyrille Boyer (UNSW), John Hartwig (@UCB_Chemistry), @dr_imariwalker (@RTI_Intl) & @karen_wooley (@TAMU) https://t.co/0c7DShmJpt

We have a preprint in review about #microplastics and #nanoplastics in human tonsils. See https://t.co/l1JCbifJpm The quantity and type of MPs and NPs vary greatly from person to person. And, no, It is not just PE plastics (false positive artefacts) Why this much variation?

Seabirds chicks have been shown to ingest plastic waste provided by their parents and damaged include harm to their stomach lining, cell rupture and neurodegeneration similar to Alzheimer’s. New paper in science:

Plastic consumption in seabirds causes blood signatures of widespread organ damage including brain, stomach, kidney, and liver.

While conducting experiments on microplastics settling dynamics when aggregated with algae, we noticed something curious: with high particle conc, behavior was different. We now assessed how settling behavior is influenced by other particles in suspension. https://t.co/jObM0KY0uN

Huge review article just released suggesting that microplastics have the potential to harm reproductive, respiratory and digestive human health. Additionally they make linkages of microplastic exposure to colon and lung cancer https://t.co/RomqX3dQuf

Microplastics are ubiquitous environmental contaminants for which there are documented human exposures, but there is a paucity of research evaluating their impacts on human health. We conducted a...

@dr_imariwalker, Researcher at RTI & contributor to the study, said: “This not only presented some of the most urgent questions to address regarding tire particle pollution but also provided actionable steps for researchers, industry & regulators to take.” https://t.co/o6nisoTflp
independent.co.uk
Tyre particles have been found to be the leading contributor to microplastics.
