I'm German. Europe is dying out. Birthrates are rapidly collapsing. Government incentives aren't working. By 2100, Europe will have lost 117 million people. Here's why Europe's population is imploding (and what it means for the world) 🧵:

So you've never used the NHS? Never used public transport? The police? Fire brigade? Never visited a library? You didn't go to school? Right 🙄
Well actually, until I started to draw my (paid for) pension recently, apart from inoculations as a child, I’ve never taken anything from the state so maybe I will maybe I won’t. Only time will tell.

Starting to see a lot of 'but Britain's state pensions are the worst in Europe...' 🤔 That's true on some measures, but i) the UK's flat rate state pension is more generous (relative to wages) for those people who had lower incomes when in work, and ii) this doesn't take

@Groves17Diana @dr_besty @GrahamC12967975 We pay the lowest taxes in Europe. That’s why you are supposed to have private pensions. The state pension is bare bones because the state doesn’t force us to pay much in. Thatcher called it small state and personal responsibility

@AndyHearn09 It came out of the UK £52.8 billion budget, but next to none of it was in the form of cold hard cash, but actually in the form of military tech that had been sitting in storage for 25 years, and due to either go to land fill (at tax payers expense) or to NATO to use for training

1/57 Automate the Railway! It's been a while since I addressed this in some detail, so let's have a look, shall we? My sources are quoted but any errors are my own, for which I apologise in advance. Strap yourself in, it's a long'un! (Sorry) TL;DR starts on tweet 51/57.

A quick thread on why #driverlesstrains to replace those allegedly overpaid 'button pushers' who drive them isn't going to happen any time soon. Please feel free to quote and retweet to those who believe otherwise. So, where do we start? Well, firstly, driverless trains...

@afneil Yes agreed. And never forget why we dont have a national wealth fund. Because the Boomers and their politicians - generally supported by you and the publications that you have worked for - wasted all those surpluses, including the vast windfalls from North Sea Oil. Worse, they

@JBuckleyLabour @kimleadbeater @owe65332 for young people in britain today, what's the incentive to stay? money made is taxed into oblivion in order to pay for social programs for the elderly which won't exist by the time they would benefit from them, and their freedoms are constantly repressed in the name of "safety"

Such ignorance exactly what government preys upon I suppose you dutifully stood around in a mask for 2 years? every single search conducted with Experian is shared with lenders before you open your mouth try to educate yourself you fool
@geoffbanksbet A soft check isn't seen by lenders, they can't see the number that Experian assign to your file either and even if they could they'd never use it as a basis for deciding who to lend to

YouGov’s latest polling showed 50% of Britons support support the government's proposal to delay the ban on new petrol and diesel cars until 2035. 34% oppose. Voters support the policy shift despite the apocalyptic tone from some of the media and MPs.
