Yesterday, I had a chance to talk with @MeredithBruckTV at @CBSDetroit about unarmed crisis response in Ann Arbor. Check it out. #a2council.
cbsnews.com
The city of Ann Arbor has been working on establishing an unarmed crisis response team as an alternative to law enforcement.
Postscript: People want help without being under the threat of state-sponsored violence. With the CBCRP grant #a2council has managed to ignore community input, disregard expert recommendations, & muddy the waters on what should be clear: Ann Arbor wants unarmed crisis response.

Wow, @thepatwalls, thank you for featuring on Starter Story! Seeing this pop up on my Google Alerts while coding CareNote was such a sweet surprise. It truly made my day—an amazing early birthday and Christmas gift all rolled into one. 🎉.

I preached today on "Why Do We Pray?" My answer: We pray because we're fully known, because God is with us, and to be transformed. Like my grandmother Pearl's hugs that wouldn't let go until you felt loved - that's how God holds us. We pray because we're fully welcomed. 🙏 #Faith

This perfectly captures our skewed urban priorities: Municipal vehicle blocks sidewalk to avoid impeding cars. Public servants blocking infrastructure meant for pedestrians🚶‍♀️, wheelchair users🦽, strollers & cyclists 🚲. All while we pay for the privilege. #urbanism

It will be challenging for America to relinquish this vestige of white supremacy and slavery. Read about the racist origins of the electoral college before reading The Guardian article.
theguardian.com
Concerns about US democracy grow with the electoral college’s role in enabling presidents to win without the popular vote, potentially benefiting Donald Trump in 2024

RT @ElieNYC: Trump's "secret plan" with Mike Johnson to steal the election is more devious than you probably think. It's not just electing….

The “secret” almost certainly involves a plan to install Trump in the White House if he loses the election—but this plan could be even worse than you think.

A reflection: past me would promise 'anything' to close a client deal. Present me is learning to ask customers to sponsor the missing feature they want. I've done it three times and each time the customer said yes. Pretty proud of present me. #growth #buildinpublic

Deciding between Stripe OAuth and Connect for I just want clients to import payments into Directee—Connect feels like overkill, but OAuth access needs Stripe marketplace approval. What’s everyone else doing? #laravel #filamentphp #buildinpublic.

Listened to this 1A podcast this morning on Christian Nationalism. Interesting that one panelist was removed as an editor for spiking an article on racism within the Catholic Church—only to fall up into an endowed chair at a Catholic university. SMH 🤦🏾‍♂️.

Here's an article for #a2council as they continue "information gathering" on crisis response programs. This Chicago-based program started as a pilot with $3.5M, just like our program was supposed to before #a2council reappropriated the ARPA funds.

The CARE program, which launched in 2021, previously deployed mental health professionals and specially trained police to certain 911 calls. Police and fire personnel will no longer be part of the...
Listening to tonight’s #a2council discussion, it’s really striking that the City Administrator says we are in the “information gathering” phase. This is after the City authored & issued two RFPs to setup a Crisis Response program. What more information do they need? 1/.

Read the Michigan Daily article on Crisis Response and the #a2council community's response to losing out on a truly unarmed crisis response program. 7/.

While I appreciate the willingness to provide a complete response to my original set of questions–it's now moot since #a2council voted to accept the grant. The opportunity to understand the grant's nature, its impact on our community, & how the data would be used has passed.
@donnell I'll work to share an updated response from my office for you and would be happy to chat but wanted to make sure to provide a prompt response here to let you know our council members and staff have been very thorough on this grant to ensure it meets our community values.

Finally, read @avitale ’s book, “The End of Policing” or watch his U of Chicago’s webinar where he argues and experts agree that police should not be involved in crisis response at all. Good luck out there! 9/9.
