Chị Tú was an amazing guest! It was an eye-opening conversation where she articulated the experiences of internal migrant workers in #Vietnam and the unresolved challenges they find themselves in that underscore their precariousness.
In this podcast, host @findingsen and I talked about the precariousness of rural to urban migrants in Vietnam. Besides longstanding issues of wages & collective bargaining, I reflect on challenges of social insurance & gender discrimination from my recent research.

One of the reasons #Vietnam’s vax rate is so low is bc it ''was waiting to see how the [foreign] vaccines work”, said @BichTTran1. This bumped its orders far back in the queue when it finally placed them. But foreign policy is its bright spot which could help its situation 6/

@findingsen @BichTTran1 Insufficient information about the safety of vaccines to counter the fake news that vaccine is bad for one's health. People said that they have declined to be vaccinated because if the vaccine is not safe for children (which is inaccurate), it may not be safe for adults either.

“This time around the situation is very serious,” a 22-year-old frontline worker told me. “Everyone is trying so that the outbreak in Saigon could soon come to an end.” Unprecedented long lockdowns, fast-spreading infections hv stretched people's limit 1/ https://t.co/Ze2mWyZesU

@Kristinbparco, chief mission of the @UNmigration in Cambodia, said reduced wages, job losses and the increased reliance on the internet, among other pandemic effects, have created a “fertile recruitment ground for traffickers”. https://t.co/TZPTk6jWRW

In a report shared exclusively with me prior to its release by @BlueDragonVN, I learned that most people prosecuted for trafficking women from Vietnam to China 2012-2020 were young members of ethnic minority groups like H'mong with no prior criminal record

The study by the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation found that more than 60 per cent of victims and prosecuted traffickers were from groups such as the H’mong and Thai.
