Today’s Iftar was so good! I made coconut chicken curry, pulao & beguni, sister made palak paneer and mum made kachakolar Kofta (raw banana koftas). Plus beguni, samosas & mishti:)

I love this Chai Malai cake so much but don’t make it unless there’s a special occasion - like today, my sister’s birthday. Masala chai flavoured cake with a rasmalai frosting (cardamom and rose). Recipe in my cookbook!

pastry making today! The best ones are designed by mum - cut by hand with small knives/ toothpicks. A good Nokshi Pitha is one with raised patterns like the one l’m holding, which remains pronounced after being fried & soaked in syrup.
We had the best afternoon, sitting together with mum, making these traditional Bangladeshi pastries - Nokshi Pitha. The most intricate ones are of course mum’s!

Sometimes bhorta & dal are all you need for a satisfying & nourishing meal. In this case the dal has shatkora in it - a Sylhet specialty citrus. Time for a nap!

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence. A bloody & heartbreaking war led to the formation of a tiny country with a mighty heart. These are narkeler shomsha/puli pitha - always present at our celebrations. 🇧🇩

Decided to make a small batch of handesh aka teler Pitha for Iftar today. Normally never make these fried rice flour and molasses cake unless it’s Eid, but couldn’t resist after my niece insisted I make them.

Eid prep underway in our house! Two of the items for tomorrow. My egg Korma & mum’s handesh (molasses rice flour cakes). Sister in law in making chicken roast, pulao & meat with potatoes. Plus milk cake for dessert. Already exhausted.

I shared with a friend that I’m struggling to get things done since my dad’s death & she suggested sharing a photo everyday of something I’ve cooked/that brings me joy. Although these patties were enjoyed in Dhaka, I am reminded of cha nasta - which my late dad loved.

Our first cha nasta in a long time. Dad used to love these nunor bora - a type of Pitha (rice flour pastry) popular in the Sylhet region. Flavoured with ginger and turmeric and fried till crisp.
