But, the question is how aluminum-doping helps? Don't worry, here is the answer with mechanistic insight offered through in-situ experiments in H2O using complementary time-resolved spectroscopy tools. Selectively monitored electron and hole dynamics from pico to microseconds.

However, note that in all these works, undoped SrTiO3 hardly yielded any photocatalytic overall water splitting reaction. Aluminum doping SrTiO3 was indispensable and it remarkably enhanced the photocatalytic activity by 3 to 4 orders of magnitude.

Aluminum-doped SrTiO3 has also demonstrated scalable solar hydrogen production over 100 square meter modules under ambient sunlight with stability exceeding 250 days. Thanks to pioneering work from Professor Domen (Domen-sensei).

Sunlight-driven #hydrogen production using semiconducting photocatalyst, just like mimicking plants, is a simplest, cost-effective and promising method. Currently, the champion #photocatalyst for overall water splitting is aluminum-doped SrTiO3, despite absorbing only UV light.

It was amazing to come back to the campus after 9 years and witness the signficant progress. Pleasure seeing new TNW building. Old days, @ChemeTUDelft used to be called as DelftChemTech in Julianalaan 136. Nostalgic. @TNWTUDelft
