This is the core question of dual citizenship that so many countries casually hand out. It was all rosy when they were allies. Those equations are breaking now.
Aside from the obvious strangeness of a US citizen going to fight in a foreign army (e.g. IDF or Ukraine), there's also the question of the responsibility of the US Govt if they're captured or killed. So many of the Oct 7 "American hostages" were actually active-duty IDF.
