I won’t say much more lest we all get caught in a painful rhetorical back-and-forth… @karenvaites thank you for your measured response to my comments and I hope I have made it clearer 😀

Discourse with people like you, not with faceless bomb-throwers. It doesn’t matter if it’s a “keyboard fighter” or a troll, (don’t like those terms but don’t know better ones), or a bot—I don’t think we should welcome any of them.

Also, I don’t mean to “take aim” bc I believe in discourse. I just want to have discourse with people who understand the value of nuance and complexity. I just don’t want to include vitriol in the conversation, if that makes sense (and regardless of the “side” it comes from).

@devin_kearns @IESResearch @elonmusk We’ve already invested trillions. They know what works. I support him on this move — put the funds towards vouchers.

There is an effort to cancel @IESResearch contracts … prob not legal and def a bad idea… Does Mr @elonmusk want an educated workforce? IES funds non-partisan work to help kids learn better—and is known for good fiscal stewardship … wrong place to find savings & corruption.

I really think that science can help us put the lie to old-fashioned mean-spirited comments. to me, this is why the science of reading is important.

I find the "35 years" statement painful because it is rhetorical--not scientific. It won't improve reading teaching but does make disagreements worse. isn't worth debating b/c that's not science, but it is unpleasant... clearly wrong but hard to respond without more rhetoric.

just read a paper saying the simple view of reading is not valid b/c research is "over 35 years old" ... ignores many more recent SVR papers. @YoungSukKim19 direct & indirect effects model of reading (DIER) is a newer empirically validated one, but no mention of this science.
