BIP110 is needed because spam is retiring nodes early. Spam is bloat. More powerful CPU's are needed to process and sync nodes. Increasingly more disk space is being demanded for data that is basically unwanted on Bitcoin. (Archival) nodes are the backbone of Bitcoin.
My node is out of storage. Running a full Start9OS node with mempool and electrum MAXED out 1 TB. Just ordered a 2TB. Will install Start9OS on my 1TB drive and use the 2TB for just the blockchain and other data. Hopefully I get at least 5 years out of it.
