It’s a cunning ploy, humiliating England into playing for the draw…. their defensive play rank compared to their offensive play. .

Yes, if they were trying give more time to their bowlers rather than less time to England’s batters, who remember, don’t play for draws….

@derekpringle But with 6 wickets left and a flat pitch thought they’d try and push it on a bit quicker .🤷‍♀️.

Ian Ward says he can’t understand why India taking time out of the game…. Well, England’s stated aim that they don’t play for draws mean they’ll go for anything, so make it steep ……500 in 120 overs.

The irony is that it was Gavaskar’s last Test in England and he’d been interviewed before the innings by Peter West who’d made great play of Gavaskar’s judgment of his off-stump…. hey presto he leaves one and it clunks into off-stump.

@derekpringle Quick question. Given the popularity of Test cricket here, is it possible to get more of the worlds best players to play red-ball County Championship cricket ?. I’m just harking back to the 70s/80s perhaps and guessing the answers ‘no, as long as we have 100/T20 comps’.

Doubt it, even if there was enough space in international itineraries top players would want top money the domestic game doesn’t really have despite the recent sale of The Hundred franchises….
