Not to be alarmist but…this is what’s called a six-sigma event, now unfolding in Antarctica. Otherwise known as a once-in-7.5-million-year event. Hang onto your hats. HT @EliotJacobson

A severe marine heatwave has emerged off the coast of Florida as water temperatures have soared into the 90s. Multiple buoys in Everglades National Park are reporting water temperatures as high as 95°F (35°C).

Sea surface temperatures have skyrocketed to above normal levels across nearly every major European sea in the last month, especially in the Baltic Sea, North Sea and western Mediterranean Sea.

Everything is happening. While climate scientists have been talking about North Atlantic sea surface temperatures these last few days, what's going on with sea ice in Antarctica is even more extreme, nearly 2.4 million km² below the 1991-2020 mean, with a big jump down today.

New project with @usfs_nrs, @fsWoodLab, @usfs_psw launching on @USFSPlumas🚀. We’ll be poking on burned trees across the U.S. to know fire’s effects on tree growth and wood properties.

1/ With August now over, the ongoing soil-moisture drought in southwestern North America has now, at 23 years old and counting, matched the duration, and probably exceeded the severity, of the “megadrought” that struck the region from 1571–1593.

Hello #dendro folks. I have a funded research position for an interested PhD student. Position is not tied to any of our funded work so student research focus could be most anything tree-ring related. Thanks! https://t.co/WRSL3kJh5X
