#HeraMission recently rehearsed a key phase of the rendezvous with Dydimos next year: detection and tracking from 2.83 million km distance. @esaoperations used asteroid 1126 Otero that was conveniently in the “neighborhood” on May 11. Can you spot it 🧐? 🛰️ performed flawlessly

Since May 20, #HeraMission is closer to Didymos than it is to Mars! Spacecraft is performing so well that we decided to remove margins to our maneuvers next year, we will arrive one month earlier on November 1, 2026 🦖☄️

Asteroids are such surprising objects, they never stop amazing me! Look at this shape and two lobes that seem to me having different crater-count thus possibly different ages! Looks like one crashed into the other 😳.
Luuucy, 'splain that if you can!. The first images from the #LucyMission's asteroid Donaldjohanson flyby show an elongated contact binary shape, with an odd narrow neck between the two lobes. More data from Lucy will be analyzed in the coming weeks.
