Same like girls' schools across the state lack an operating incinerator for menstrual hygiene products. Some schools installed ready-to-go solutions such as paper-made disposal packs on their own initiative.

Most schools lack proper sanitation facilities, either at the physical infrastructure level (adequate numbers for the school's strength) or the maintenance level. Students even hesitate to drink the water they bring from their homes because of the lack of sanitation facilities.

This may appear to be a progressive and needed intervention to keep the students hydrated during prolonged hot days or protect them from dehydration-related health issues. But this is just a managerial perfomativity implementing without considering the messy realities.

One of my sociology professors used the word ‘pariah’ in class quoting Weber, but they dismissed their oversight casually and ignored it, even when it was pointed out through Rupa Viswanath’s work. The irony? They passionately talk about decolonisation.
Strange to to me that in 2025 people use the word pariah in English without knowing it’s casteist origins.
