2/2: (you must do it as root): sudo su - cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ ln -s https://t.co/VBXV7MOZ8D.1t64.0.2
https://t.co/VBXV7MOZ8D.1 Then ASE will work properly

1/2: If you install ASE 16.1 on Ubuntu 24.04 (or Ubuntu 24.04 based systems, like Mint) then you'll get an error about "can't find
https://t.co/VBXV7MPwYb.1." Ubuntu moved the library; simple fix is to do this:

How in the world could the "showserver" binary on a Linux be broken? Definitely is on 16.0 SP04 PL04 on Linux RHEL 8.10 (it returns backupserver names only). Fixed in PL05 and higher. YMMV

Just downloaded SAP ASE 16.1 and Replication Server 16.1 to my personal laptop. Time to take them for a test-drive and see what they're all about. And contrary to some posts that I've seen on some social media platforms, SAP isn't abandoning ASE in 2027.

SAP ASE 16.1 has been released (woohoo!), which to me shows SAP's continued commitment to the Sybase install base. Looking forward to downloading it and running it through its paces.

I know it's a few days late (I wasn't feeling all that well towards the end of 2024), but I wanted to take a minute to wish all of my followers a Happy 2025! I know in the new year I'll be doing all I can to keep ASE alive and help customers as best I can!

One of the biggest perks of working for myself (and in my own office) is that I get to bring my dog to work with me every day. Trouble is that he's developed "friends" in the building, so when I come in at 8, he takes off and goes to "visit" everyone. He's living his best life

I just read that "ReiserFS" has been deleted from the Linux kernel. Man I remember when that filesystem was all the rage.

2/2 .. killing off 56 products (!!). I've used VMware Workstation since pre-1.0 and think it's a fantastic product. However, I'm wondering if it's time to look at other products? Nutanix, virtualbox, KVM /Xen all come to mind. Just a thought. Let's see how things pan out

1/1 This VMWare / Broadcom acquisition is getting a lot of negative feedback from the IT world (at least in the circles that I run around in) based on Broadcom canceling products, changing sales models, canceling unused subscriptions, etc. Today I read on OSNews that they are ..

@hotelsdotcom 3/3 So, why would I stay with their program (which was fabulous) and continue to use their site for bookings? Simple. I won't. I'll use my credits, and then I'll move on - like many, as the backlash against this change has been (deservedly) strong.

@hotelsdotcom 2/3 Back on the old program, I would be halfway towards a free night's stay (as it only required 10 nights). Not now. At the rate I'm going, I would have to stay nearly 30 days at this same property to get a free night. That's a HUGE difference.

1/3I posted once before about this, but I want to express again how utterly horrible that the new https://t.co/2DilabpySZ OneKeyCash program is (@hotelsdotcom ). I've stayed 5 nights at a hotel property this week, and I got a pittance for "program rewards" ($15 in credit).

People used to say that they "tweeted" something. But now that Twitter is now called "X", what is is called when you post something on here?

I never was much for GUI tools, but DBeaver is FANTASTIC ... and it's open source.

I was today years old when I found out that you could relocate flatpak's (under Linux) to somewhere else besides the /var filesystem. This is a huge win bc /var on my laptop was filling up and I thought I was going to have to re-install.

Gave a presentation yesterday for ISUG's "virtual tech conference" on how to enable end-to-end SSL in Replication Server. Looks like this is an interesting topic overall; might do more on how to enable SSL in ASE, HADR, and a few other topics like LDAP integration.

Been working on a project for my client and I'm using things / skills that I haven't had to use since the 1990s.

I used to get so excited when Apple would announce new products, new hardware, and new technologies. Nowadays, I'm more "meh". New iPhone? Meh. New iPad? Meh. New MacBook? Meh. It's not that I don't like their products, I just don't go "ooooo!" anymore. Thoughts?

I've heard of the company / product called "proxmox" twice today. I had to run to Google to figure out who they were and what they did. Interesting.
