Puerto Rico oversight board (2016-2024)/law professor/True Paradox: How Christianity Makes Sense of Our Complex World (2014)
Joined September 2014
You surely are right that there has to be a coherent standard when you fire some but not all. As a constitution law prof friend of mine said to me this afternoon, we'll soon be learning a lot about "for cause." It's hard to imagine it would be met for the 5 ousted board members.
@cate_long Perhaps. But I know of no metrics one could use to evaluate each member’s individual performance. And one would presume “cause” requires some form of standard if the firings are done selectively.

RT @JBalmaceda787: This deserves closer scrutiny. Here's the former chairman of #PuertoRico's Oversight Board & professor of corporate law….

I hope one or more of the five will challenge their ouster, to protect the best interests of Puerto Rico. There are very good legal arguments that @FOMBPR is diff than the agencies where removal may be upheld despite the absence of credible arguments there's cause to remove.
Trump’s Fiscal Board purge isn’t about reform. It’s a move to stack the Board with people who will keep putting hedge funds first, leaving Puerto Ricans to pay the price. I’ll keep fighting for a just recovery & the day Puerto Ricans can govern without unelected control.

I came on board a year later-- my college roommates and I watched the next iteration of Phil Collins ("Can't Buy me Love"), Huey Lewis and the News, Stray Cat Strut, Come on Eileen etc pretty much every night our senior year.
44 years ago today (8/1/81), MTV launched as a cable station. These were the first 35 videos they played (in order). Any of ya’ll remember that first night?

The entire Puerto Rico crisis hearing is worth watching, but Robert's opening statement (quoted here) is a particular highlight.
#FOMBPR Executive Director Robert Mujica told Congress today: “My family left Puerto Rico and found opportunity in New York. My grandfather owned a grocery store, which is where I learned to understand the discipline and responsibility that comes with running a business. My

Really compelling hearing on the Puerto Rico crisis today, which showed precisely what still needs to be done and what has stood in the way of PREPA getting out of bankruptcy.
Power outages are part of daily life for Puerto Ricans. Meanwhile, vulture fund Golden Tree is trying to cash in on PREPA’s debt putting profits over people. At today’s NRC hearing, I made it clear: This is Golden Tree vs. the People of Puerto Rico. And we know which side we’re

For Puerto Rico watchers: it's encouraging to see @FOMB setting the record straight on the bondholders' long scorched earth campaign and how terrible their demands would be for PREPA and its customers.

Nice summary of the lovely celebration of the late great Harv law prof Bill Stuntz earlier this month-- which featured a pitch-perfect keynote by.@jacklgoldsmith .
