We are still seeing stark differences in #COVID19 infections and deaths by race/ethnicity and inadequate reporting of race/ethnicity data, which further magnifies chronic underfunding and #SystemicRacism in our public health system.

#COVID19 infections and death continue to disproportionately impact Black and Latinx communities across the country

#COVID19 infections are more prevalent than expected based on population in Black people in 32 states, in Latinx people in 38 states, and in White people in 0 states as of yesterday per the @COVID19Tracking Racial Data Tracker.

States with the most new #COVID cases (per @COVID19Tracking), are doing a poor job characterizing race/ethnicity for infections/deaths. Could be due to poor infrastructure, newly overwhelmed resources, etc. but is not good and obscuring health inequities.

There are just so many things wrong this this I don't know where to start.

#Tennessee still has higher #COVID19 infections and deaths in Black and Latinx individuals than neighboring states and the south as a whole.

#COVID19 deaths are more prevalent than expected (based on population) in Black people in 37 states, in Latinx people in 13 states, and in White people in 7 states as of yesterday (states grouped by Census Bureau Division).

The @nytimes now also has data available on health inequities by country:

I've updated both #COVID sites with new health inequities data from @COVID19Tracking. I removed the "Non-White" category because of differential reporting across states making comparisons difficult.

Thanks to excellent feedback from @laurenspeetluk, I've reworked the COVID #HealthEquity data with R Shiny. We can now compare health inequity across states/regions of interest (e.g. TN, GA, AR, AL, and the South) #EpiTwitter #rstats .
