Given that most Poles support the reparations claim and bitterly remember Germany's pre-2022 friendliness towards Moscow, it's hard to imagine a more undiplomatic statement by the ambassador
Germany's ambassador has told a member of the Polish opposition that their demands for Berlin to pay war reparations “create divisions that help only Putin”. His comments sparked criticism, including from President Nawrocki's chief foreign-policy aide

Poland is not a "small European nation", @TheSun. It has a larger land area than the UK and a population of 38 million, the 8th highest in Europe

Just in case you've lost track: Poland's justice minister wants to bring criminal charges against the chief justices of the Supreme Court and Constitutional Tribunal, as well as his own predecessor, and now the president wants criminal charges against the justice minister
The head of President @NawrockiKn's office has asked prosecutors to investigate the justice minister, accusing him of abusing his powers, a crime that carries a prison sentence of up to three years

Anyone who has learned Polish will not be at all surprised to know that it's a great way to prepare for carrying out complex tasks
An international study has found Polish to be the best language for completing complex AI tasks. The authors admit that the result was “surprising”, as was the fact that English ranked only sixth among the 26 languages tested

@patrykmichalski Nie rozumiem oburzenia. Czy nie jest oczywiste że opinoa o słabości Zachodu (również USA po pamiętnej ewakuacji z Afganistanu) nie była jednym z głównych czynników podjęcia przez Putina zbrodniczej decyzji?

In Kraków the first bar on the left when you walk down Stolarska Street from the Small Market Square is called "The first bar on Stolarska Street on the left, walking from the Small Market Square"

The word "kombinować" itself is wonderfully Polish and often quite hard to translate directly into English. It generally means to try and get something done in an unorthodox, improvised, often underhand way
My favourite Polish word without an English equivalent is kombinować, meaning (roughly) to arrange/sort out/plan something but in an underhand way (see also, załatiwić) Another good one is kilkanaście, meaning an amount between 11 and 19

Another wonderful Polish animal-related saying: kombinować jak łysy koń pod górę Literal meaning: to scheme like a bald horse [going] up a hill Figurative meaning: to try to overcome a tough challenge with a lot of effort but not much ability, often in an overcomplicated way

It was one of the things in wrote about in my threads last year on ten things that have (and haven't) changed in the 20 years since I moved to Poland https://t.co/z7JTpjoKMs
6. The transformation of big cities Twenty years ago, I tried to avoid places like Katowice, Łódź and even (though I'll get flack for this) Warsaw. They just felt grey and miserable. Now they have transformed into lively, colourful, exciting places that are a pleasure to visit

When I first lived in Poland 20 years ago I tried to avoid Warsaw, finding it grey and depressing. Since then it has transformed into an exciting, thriving city, and I find any excuse I can to visit

The Polish judge's justification for not extraditing the Nord Stream sabotage suspect to Germany: "Blowing up infrastructure...in a just, defensive war...is not sabotage but military action...that under no circumstances constitutes a crime...On the contrary, it is justified"
A Polish court has refused to extradite the Ukrainian man wanted by Germany for his alleged involvement in the sabotage of Russia's Nord Stream gas pipelines. The judge's decision was praised by Polish Prime Minister @donaldtusk

Safety concerns notwithstanding, this is honestly the best place for them
The authorities in Kraków were stunned to find an electric rental scooter "parked" 40m high on top of a pylon that forms part of a bridge. Firefighters had to be called out to remove it https://t.co/XUVBjfOJdQ

Some suggestions for Poland's new integration test to obtain citizenship: - Answering the question "How are you?" with a long list of complaints about your life - Picking a basket of edible mushrooms in the forest - Surviving the queue at Poczta Polska and sending a list polecony
Poland’s interior ministry has proposed tougher rules for obtaining Polish citizenship. They would increase the residency period from three to eight years and require applicants to take a test proving they are integrated and sign a declaration of loyalty

One of the standout facts in this great data-driven piece by @TomHCalver is that the Warsaw region has higher GDP per capita, adjusted for cost of living, than any part of the UK other than central London
Poland is now "nearly as rich as the UK" after seeing real GDP per capita grow 18% since 2019, compared to 1% for the UK, notes @thetimes. "In some ways Poland is already ahead...[with] faster mobile internet, cheaper electricity and more high-speed rail"
