Can somebody tell me why Confluence is so successful? There are plenty of software companies that create good products. How is it Atlassian that comes out on top instead?

Generative AI will change Software in three stages: 1. 🚀 AI-assisted coding will give engineers an extra 1 - 2 hours/day 2. 📜 Coding in plain English will become viable 3. 💬 Plugins for conversational platforms will replace self-contained products. https://t.co/jRw0jnXugP

Everyone is talking about how ChatGPT will change the way we write software. Are we missing the bigger picture?

Yes, you can use #ChatGPT and other #GenerativeAI to write code, but there's a bigger picture here. What if it won't just do the coding for us, but eliminate code as a concept altogether? Can you imagine?

As a pianist, the expression "all thumbs" for clumsiness never made sense to me. My thumbs are my most dextrous and independent digits, I'd love it if all my fingers were like my thumbs! #UnusuallyStrongFingerOpinions

Friday challenge: Your stakeholder argues that the bad UX on your application form is good, actually, because it filters out "the dumb users". How do you respond?

You know how sales people sometimes ask if they can have five minutes of your time? This one is going for the kill!

Everyone's talking about how ChatGPT can write code, but can it do the job of a Principal Engineer? I interviewed it for the role to find out. Absolutely fascinating (and a bit terrifying) what it came up with.

Finding a good Principal Engineer can be challenging, and in lieu of candidates, I interviewed an AI. It passed! What do we make of that?

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the people living life in peace. ME: That’s beautiful. CARL DOUGLAS: Okay, now imagine they were kung fu fighting. ME: No you’re right that’s better. Carl’s is better.

spent 30m in the linkedin mines, stumbled out w keys to enlightenment. * anyone who calls themselves a visionary, isn't * anyone who says they do thought leadership, doesn't * 'global' means 15 layers bureaucracy * 'transformation' means 20yr behind * 'innovation' is meaningless

Positive example, and hear me out here: coffee. Non dairy whiteners are better. I know we call them milk substitutes but I'd argue that's a semantic defect. They are a parallel and independent solution to the problem of black coffee.

Negative example: vegan chili con carne. Listen. Spanish is widely spoken and Duolingo is free. Help is available. Chili con carne is a dish that understands and venerates the meat experience, the texture, the smokiness. I don't care if it looks the part on insta, it's macabre.

Positive example: nut roast. It's wholesome and filling and anyone who tries to sneak some meat in ends up with a haggis, serves them right.

Negative example: cauliflower burritos. Any cauliflower not breaded, garlicked and baked is food waste and thus a sin. Ho hum, look at me I'm a food blogger and i just discovered the find-and-replace feature in Word. Every chicken is a cauliflower now yay vegan clicks
