Completely gutted to hear the news about Ozzy. He was my route into heavy metal, watching him and at the Jubilee in 2002, he was having more fun than everyone else put together. So much came from that - playing guitar, so many friends and crazy times. A Working Class Hero ๐Ÿ˜ข๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฆ‡

OTD in 1944 US Base Section No1 published its plan for Op Beneficiary. The plan was based on capturing St Malo and the logistics plan was critical. It included a huge shopping list to get the port operating #DDay81 #DDay #WW2 #Brittany #Normandy #StMalo #Arnhem #Arnhem81

The Airborne Corps not being up to the job didn't just happen in September, the roots go back much further. .

OTD in 1944 the Commander Airborne Troops at 21st Army Group, Lt-Gen 'Boy' Browning, wrote to Monty's Chief of Staff, Maj-Gen Freddie De Guingand. He explained that his HQ was not currently staffed as a fully operational corps HQ #DDay81 #DDay #WW2 #Normandy #Brittany #Arnhem

Recent plans for airborne ops in Brittany would have required a corps HQ, and Browning argued that his was the only feasible option. He also asked for a corps signals staff, which did not exist #DDay81 #DDay #WW2 #Normandy #Brittany #Arnhem #Arnhem81.

It was a complicated plan, including an airborne operation, a seaborne landing, naval and air bombardment, and tons of logistics. Basically, a mini D-Day #DDay #DDay81 #WW2 #Airborne #StMalo #Brittany #Bretagne.

I've never really been interested in wargaming, but I wonder how 1st Airborne and Hill 112 during Wild Oats would work out? #wargaming #Epsom #WW2 #Hill112.

I've been spending some more time going through the collection of photos of my great-uncle, Leading Stoker Tommy Daly, and his shipmates on HMS Enterprise, 1940-2. Including a run ashore in neutral Buenos Aires #WW2 #RoyalNavy #HMS
