How tf can you ban accepting tips in a restaurant, an industry where tipping is expected?? How is a customer wanting to tip a hard working employee “stealing” from the company???
On a personal note—I was outed to a family member today.
That was a risk I decided to take when I chose to be open about my SW experience on my business pages. I don’t regret my decision. I still feel pain, confusion, fear, and guilt around this.
My family and I are safe.
🚨INPUT WANTED 🚨
I’m compiling a list of credit unions to recommend to fellow SWers & clients. I thought about making this a public thread, but felt it was too risky.
If you’re a SW who uses a credit union, please DM or email me if you’re willing to share!
With Biden’s new bill, the IRS will have access to taxpayer’s bank account information and will be checking for untaxed income.
Moving forward all cash deposits into your bank account should be reported on your tax return to avoid being penalized by the IRS for tax evasion!
Can I expense it? Let’s look at some examples!
YES to wigs and false lashes
NO to routine hair appointments and lash extensions
If you can take it off right after work, there’s a much better chance it’s a valid (appearance) deduction!
If you’re a content creator and you use any of the below for your work, you can treat yourself to an upgrade and reduce your taxable income at the same time! 💅💸✨
“Oh, you’re a tax accountant? What does your husband do?”
He has the most important job of all: keeping me fed and caffeinated and keeping our four animals alive
$400 is the reporting threshold for self-employment income!
We often see the misconception that $600 is the minimum, and it makes sense, because that’s the minimum for a 1099! But if you make $400 or more, you technically still need to file and pay self-employment tax on that.
IT’S HERE!!!!
The Daisy Does Taxes Sex Worker’s Guide to Taxes is now available for digital download!!
You can purchase it here:
If you would prefer a physical copy please DM me as those are made to order!
I’ve seen some debate recently around this topic, so let’s talk about it!! As SWers, our appearance is a huge part of the job, and many of us only perform femininity for pay. As a SWer and a tax professional, this is my advice to maximize your savings and abide by IRS rules.
So pleased to announce that Daisy will be doing a live segment with

When you’re setting your prices, remember to factor in 20-30% for taxes as well as any percentage cut that a platform or workplace might take.
A $100 tip on OF actually nets you $64 after the platform’s 20% fee, and after you set aside 20% of the remainder for tax.
Myth vs Fact: Do SWers pay tax?
SWers pay both self-employment and income tax. Singling out SWers as the group to question ignores major issues around taxes and scapegoats a marginalized group.
Categorizing your expenses is a smart move, because it saves you time when you need to file. So which categories are you likely to need to use? Here’s a quick breakdown of what goes into the most-used expense categories for SWers!
Two Formulas to Know as a Self-Employed SWer: Net Income and Estimated Tax!
Note: The estimated tax equation is not the same as a full quarterly estimate, which takes into account a LOT more information!
These colorful tax guides are shipping out tomorrow!
Tomorrow is the last day to reserve your physical copy of The SWers Guide to Taxes: 2021 Edition! DM me to reserve a copy ❤️

Can I purchase content as market research, and is that a write-off?
Absolutely! Purchasing content is a great way to conduct market research. You can categorize it as Other Expense - Market Research or as part of your Advertizing expenses.
(Be mindful of research vs copying!)
We’re seeking one reliable, cheerful individual to join our team! Position is part time and remote with flexible hours. Pay is hourly and DOE. Strong preference to SWers! Must be available to start ASAP.

FAQ: Is it illegal to have a cover story?
No, it is not illegal to have a cover story. More specifically, it’s not illegal to file your taxes as a Consultant or Independent Artist when you’re a SWer. Criminally, the IRS is concerned with tax fraud first and foremost.
Need to get on track for 2022?
Our “Full Package” deal covers your estimated tax for all 4 quarters and your 2022 return. For $400, all of your tax issues are handled for the year.
So, obviously there is Twitter drama. The most hurtful of which being that I lied about being in an accident on 4/18.
🚨TW🚨
No, I am not lying about this accident. I tried to end my life. Largely bc of the vitriol I receive on these platforms.
A cash tip to housekeeping or hotel porters is tax deductible under your travel expenses. Make an entry in your expenses spreadsheet that a cash tip was left, and that can function as your record.
We’ve got a new blog post up: How to Create a Budget as a Self-Employed SWer! 💰✨
This guide is designed to help you figure out how to work out your own budget based on your expenses and your income. The numbers are mostly national averages, so everyone’s will be different!
Another edition of “Can I expense it?” !
Yes! You can expense your stage makeup and your press-on nails!
No! You can’t expense your skincare or your nail appointments*!
(*An exception can be made for content creation centered around nails!)
Due to an overwhelming volume of initial meeting requests, & the need to pay a living wage to both myself & my assistant, Daisy Does Taxes will now be taking $15 deposits for all initial appointments. The full of your deposit can be applied to any service if booked within 1 month
Happy August 🌼

Due to inflation and the current cost of living, Daisy Does Taxes will be using a new pricing structure. The prices below go into effect September 1st, 2022, with other prices changing on December 1st, 2022!

Want to write off your nails?
Consider investing in packs of press-ons! You can even buy them hand-made and hand-decorated by independent nail artists on Etsy. As long as it’s something you can put on and take off, it’s part of your work “costume” and a valid write-off.

I will be accepting physical book orders through Friday, June 25, and then I won’t be printing any more until closer to the 2021 tax season.

Yes, we’re still taking new clients for 2022 returns!

Do I need to pay tax on material gifts?
Nope! A gift valued under $15,000 isn’t taxed for either the giver or the recipient. So if a client gifts you a new bag, no, you do not have to report the monetary value of the gift as income.
What Counts as Advertising?
Obviously, paying to place an ad counts. What else?
• Paying for promotion by another SWer
• Paying for a premium subscription to a site like Tryst, or even Tinder
• Purchasing custom graphics to advertise yourself on socials
