“Look what I made for my teacher!” This morning, a 5th grader proudly showed me a paper towel rose she spent hours creating, & I asked her to teach me how to make it. Her beautiful gift shows how school-home connections & everyday materials support authentic STEM learning. 🌹♻️

Don’t be afraid to share ideas with the educators at your school. We had an event in the Library & I put up a fireplace from YouTube on the screen, just for ambience…the next day I walked into the Library and the librarian asked me to show her how to make the fireplace again!

Remember putting your work on the refrigerator at home? One student showed me she could play a song on a new instrument… Another student showed me the flowers she made for a birthday gift… I was the refrigerator today.

After 4 tries, my student got his luggage tag to print correctly. He had to keep reworking his design, improving the CAD. Now we’ll just add a label and he can make sure his luggage doesn’t get lost ✈️

A local farmer got a rare “knee-ankle-foot orthosis (KAFO), a high-tech brace that uses sensors & real-time data to automatically control the knee’s joint when walking” and is now able to walk again & go back to the farming he loves! More: https://t.co/0INj2UrLqu via @WOODTV

Another robot that can additively manufacture! 🖨️ A clever take on 3D printing from @ABBRobotics and Massive Dimension. Their cell combines an ABB GoFa arm with a filament extruder, giving you true 6-axis FDM printing, without the usual complexity. It’s designed for education,

Are you a high school teacher? Do you connect with the elementary teachers? Or are you an elementary teacher, do you connect with the middle school teachers? Those connections open the door for a better school culture of learning #NewSchoolCulture

We should of course be working to improve literacy in the US but numeracy is where we are the furthest behind

Some seem intent on using AI for as many applications as possible. But you shouldn’t cook a turkey in a microwave oven, or make a smoothie with a cordless drill. And kids shouldn’t be using AI to do all their writing & thinking & figuring.

If you need a gift idea for kids, Nurcs (craft stick connectors) & 3Dux (cardboard connectors) are durable, reusable, and a great alternative to just another set of Legos. And they’re inexpensive

Small change -> big result I’ve handed out colored pencils this year for students to use while taking notes & it has greatly improved the quality of notes. The active switching of color to show steps involved helps them concentrate more & remember more when reviewing

Perseverance. One of my students baked cookies to sell today…I asked her how it went, & she said it was a long night…”I ran out of butter & had to order some with Uber & it took an hour to arrive” (the cookies were delicious 🍪)
