twain and faulkner are absolutely insane examples to use here - the former is assigned in like every high school! they’re certainly more broadly read than mccarthy (who I like).
To all the academics citing Twain, or Falkner, literally nobody cares except you stuffed shirts. Nobody reads them, nothing they write resonates with anyone living or anyone dead. Blood Meridian actually speaks to the American soul, and is actively read. Nothing else comes close.
