On one hand, Republican officials call themselves "warfighters.". On the other, they become whiny crybabies at the thought of setting foot in DC streets and New York City subways that literal schoolchildren navigate every day without incident. Real macho stuff.

Reasonable centrist professors have proven completely impotent at stopping discrimination in the admissions office or moderating the dialogue in the faculty lounge, let alone doing real politics. I'm not sure the right has much to fear from these people.
Conversely, I had dinner with a bunch of professors the other day and I don't think the right is prepared for the radicalization of formerly centrist types against them.
