Time flies!! Tomorrow the #CV4Ecology2023 cohort present their projects after 3 weeks of hard work. It's been amazing to see how much these committed, passionate scientists have learned in the last few weeks, and we're so excited to see where these projects go in the future!

Thrilled to share my first hierarchical model version! 🎉 In the image, a red deer was initially labeled as fallow deer but didn't quite meet the score threshold. It confidently ascended to the "cervid" category, gaining certainty. A leap forward in classification accuracy!🦌🔍

Epic first two weeks at @Caltech’s @cv4ecology workshop! It’s been great to learn from the incredible set of instructors and see so many other cool projects students are working on 🐅🦜🌲Excited for the final week trying new #ML approaches on my #coralreef soundscape data🪸

Today, Eric Orenstein from @FathomNet @MBARI chatted with our students about #ML opportunities that ocean sampling 🌊 provides, both from the #UAV perspective as well as from the side of using #ComputerVision to categorize/localize critters in images 🐟🪼🪸

@__justinkay gave a phenomenal lecture at @cv4ecology today on rules of thumb to improve #ComputerVision results, including #hyperparameterTuning, #fineTuning, and more! 👏

And we started the second week of our computer vision in ecology course @cv4ecology weeks with an interesting talk by @suzstathatos about CV tasks, pytorch and architectures.

Week 1 (of 3) in the books at #CV4Ecology2023 ! We're working hard while still enjoying the California sunshine, and celebrating our wins as they come 😀!

This morning, we're hunting 👀 through #Yolov8 to gain intuition on navigating open source codebases, see common structures (i.e. folder structures, configs, preprocessing, evaluation), and see what would need to be tweaked to adapt to our data!
