How to build a thriving open source community by writing code like bacteria do 🦠. Bacterial code (genomes) are: - small (each line of code costs energy) - modular (organized into groups of swappable operons) - self-contained (easily "copy paste-able" via horizontal gene

Seeing the World through Your Eyes paper page: https://t.co/tEfo3O3nw8 The reflective nature of the human eye is an underappreciated source of information about what the world around us looks like. By imaging the eyes of a moving person, we can collect multiple views of a scene

The number of finger joints on each hand (excluding the thumb) makes it possible to count to 12 by using the thumb. Egyptians and Babylonians were fond of counting in base twelve like this and this is why we have 24 hours in a day & 60 minutes in an hour https://t.co/zIZ5sMw9OY

In 2009, the Institute for Highway Safety staged a head on crash between a 2009 Chevy Malibu and a 1959 Bel Air. The same crash that would have instantly killed someone in 1959 causes a few light injuries today.

Dear @nytimes photo editor: Huge fan here. But when you post pic of a guy grimacing while getting his vaccine (when shot actually feels like a pin prick), at least consider fact that 1000s may see this as reason to not get vaccinated. Some will die from that decision. Thanks.
