New work. Lochgilphead. Not quite sure what to call it. Essentially scraped back lime harl lined out to imitate the previous Victorian cement work, in the absence of any other evidence. Still to be painted. Main contractor S&C Crawford. Masonry contractor John Reid Construction.

If you live in an old house and are offered spray foam insulation, don't. Your timberwork will rot, insurance will go through th... well anyway. The roof has to breathe.

This building is remarkable and well worth a visit. I recorded, restored and recreated interior painted schemes here. If you look very carefully in the room with faux tortoiseshell etc, you might just find a discreet signature and date of my work:

Saddell Castle, Kintyre. Mostly under wraps but the freshly limewashed and harled chimneys and crowstepped gable are now visible. Delighted to be working with @LandmarkTrust @limerich_ed ZM Architecture & William Waugh & Sons on this one…

Benholm Kirk, Aberdeenshire. Built 1832. Early lime harl. Thin two-coat application with ‘pink’ pigmented (through coloured) finish coat, later limewashed over in pale yellow to off-white limewash. Visual observations only at this stage.
