Whilst I don’t usually do politics on here, I fully endorse the use of the word ‘dipshit’ to describe anyone who maintains a questionable relationship with the truth.

The season closes like a book well-thumbed; the last ball bowled, fields now surrender to autumn’s hush. The crack of willow yields to the rustle of leaves, and where applause lingered, only the wind keeps score. Cricket sleeps, yet in silence, spring is sown. 🍂🏏

If this is indeed the end, and I’m genuinely extremely sorry if that’s the case- it sounds like it is - then I still think this was a hell of a way to go out. It’s was a heroic way to go and I loved him for it. I know many others did. English cricket was lucky to have him.

It is with profound sadness that The Yorkshire County Cricket Club announces the passing of Harold Dennis “Dickie” Bird MBE OBE, one of cricket’s most beloved figures, who died peacefully at home at the age of 92.

Sharing this again for Battle of Britain Day. The final scene of my 2000 BBC series Finest Hour and the story that closes my book of the same name. And here's to all the cogs.

Another of my favourite photos, Ken Kelly's autumnal shot of Mike Brearley in his last match before retiring walking off after leading Middlesex to a ten-wicket win and with it the County Championship at Worcester, September 11th 1982. That was not quite that. He made one final

The silhouetted remains of the High Court Banksy are much more likeable than the original - creating a curiously medieval quality...as if depicting Thomas a Becket being attacked in the crypt

Whilst the timber frames of Shropshire were well represented in my presentation to Buildings Lime Forum members at the weekend, it was definitely this photo of Pitchford Hall that people seem to have enjoyed the most.

Happy to announce that I’ll be presenting tomorrow at this years Buildings Lime Forum gathering at Bangor University. To all attending, here’s hoping you find the subject line finishes to timber framed buildings as fascinating as I do. To all of those opposed, agh well
