We simply had to ask @cordjefferson (writer and director of American Fiction) what he really thinks about book prizes...

What’s happening with the ubiquity of loud ass 90s rap and r&b at all these restaurants? I am the perfect demographic for that shit and even I am so sick of it. Gimme some bossa nova or something please, my restaurant brothers

It's been clear for a while, but the strike underlines the contempt streamers have for audiences. A show written in 10 weeks by 4 people on no sleep is gonna suck. They know that and don't care. More slop for the "content" trough that they think you'll binge no matter how shitty.

For some writers the strike will be painful, for others it’ll be existential. And I promise that minorities/women will be overrepresented in the latter group. Next time companies say they “support marginalized voices” remember how hard they try to avoid paying those voices money.

This is a really good idea. Someone should do this.

Big tech companies now exert huge influence over what stories get told. The message is clear: Be careful whom you offend.
This review of the new Ben Smith book on 2010s era of Buzzfeed and Gawker makes me all the more confident that a Mad Men-esque highbrow drama set in an early 2010s digital media company released in the 2030s could be A+. https://t.co/qYKDkL5VLk

I'm voting yes on the @WGAWest strike authorization vote today. I like my job and I don't think it should be one that only rich kids can afford to do.

How Long Gone #469: @themjeans and I chat with @cordjefferson about the Turkish Get-Up, defund Hollywood's algorithmic risk-averse greenlighting, Cord can't quit Tumblr, growing up in Arizona as well as Saudi Arabi, and the ungenerosity of Twitter — https://t.co/rZVO1gH2F0

I talked with @mayalau about money — about not having it and then all of a sudden having it. One difference is I have real forks now.
He is winning Emmys these days, but not long ago, @cordjefferson was a blogger with one plastic fork to his name. Cord “did what he loved” and the money actually followed.. how tfork did he do it?! Find out on #OtherPeoplesPockets with @mayalau: https://t.co/hFLDec7n4J

Pop-Up Magazine was unique and good in a world where fewer and fewer things are unique and good. I’ll miss it.
