Recruits, if you have a committable offer at this point, take it. Don't hold out until spring thinking you'll get something higher. The days of waiting to get a higher level offer are over. Colleges will be pursuing transfers in the spring. As a result, you'll go a level lower.
Happy birthday to my biggest role model
@Coach_Rick57
. You’re a consistent example of living with purpose, doing things with integrity, working hard, treating everyone with respect, and love for your family. I love you Dad!
People think toughness is pounding your chest & talking trash. That’s not toughness.
TOUGHNESS is:
- Executing every time down the court
- Locking in defensively, both on & off the ball
- Communicating
- Doing the little things every single time without expectation of praise
Excited to join the UMBC family. Incredible opportunity to learn from
@Coachryanodom
& be part of something special. Thanks to everyone for their kind words & support.
With the live period starting today, players make sure to:
Have good body language.
Communicate with your teammates.
Play defense.
Take care of the basketball.
Shoot shots that you consistently make & work on.
Do what you do best. Don’t try to be someone you’re not.
STUDENTS, don’t just do enough academically to be eligible. Your goal should be to excel. By barely being eligible, you limit the number of schools that can & will recruit you. Don’t have your list of options cut short from the start.
Dear players:
If you’re not happy with your playing time... Work harder. Give more effort. Make winning plays. Earn your coaches trust. Value winning over individual success.
Don’t point the blame. Take ownership & hold yourself accountable.
“Your TALENT is what God put in you before you were born. Your SKILLS are what you put in yesterday. COMMITMENT is what you must put in today in order to make today your masterpiece and make tomorrow a success” John C. Maxwell
RECRUITS
There’s a difference between being able to play at a particular level & being able to help a team win a championship at that particular level.
Usually the teams that win championships at that said level are signing guys above that particular level.
Food for thought
CHANGE OF PACE is so crucial to beating your defender.
By going 1 speed, it makes it easier for the defender to stay in front.
Change of pace freezes the defender, making him relax or raise up out of his stance, and when he does you explode past him.
Every player with aspirations to play at the college needs to listen to this! Playing at the collegiate level at any level is hard. Make sure you prepare yourself.
Thoughts & prayers with all of those at Charlotte affected by today’s tragedy. Charlotte is & will always be my home. This hurts. I pray that you & your families will be comforted during this time. Niner Nation, stay strong!
Players, control the controllable this weekend.
Want to make an impression on college coaches. Defend. Communicate. Make the extra pass.
Do something to stand out in a positive manner.
Too often coaches try to check boxes on certain skillsets when recruiting, rather than getting guys who are proven WINNERS.
There are several college players who contribute on winning programs who others passed up on because they lacked a perceived skillset.
Winners translate.
So excited to have my brother

Ask yourself, are you INTERESTED or COMMITTED?
When you’re interested in something you do it only when it’s convenient
When you’re committed to something, you do it ALL THE TIME. No exceptions. You do it when it’s hard, when you don’t feel like it, when others around you aren’t
I've had college coaches tell me "This player won't respond back to me. We're going to move on."
Recruits, if you're unsigned & have no committable offers at this point of your senior year, you are in no place to "big time" a school because of their level.
I honestly believe that if a college team compiled their entire roster of Carolina kids, they'd have a chance to win their league in each conference. NC & SC is loaded with talent.
Today’s advice to recruits & those around them:
The days of waiting for a higher level offer & signing late are dwindling. With the one time transfer rule & current college players getting an extra year due to covid, college coaches value age/experience. Go where you’re wanted.
App State Head Coach Dustin Kerns was at Greensboro Day today to watch 2023 Jaydon Young. Kerns has done a tremendous job & App State continues to recruit the state of NC hard.
@AppStateMBB
In order to be productive at the next level, you have to learn to play in the half court.
You have to be able to execute in the half court & score within the framework of the offense.
You aren't able to solely rely on transition baskets once you get to college.
Must read for players at all levels. You’re always making an impression on someone. Take advantage of every opportunity you have. You never know who’s watching.
Hit Your Teammate in the Numbers
On Time. On Target.
The difference between an open shot & contested shot = A Good Pass
When you hit your teammate in the numbers he has time to get the shot off cleanly
A poor pass disrupts the shooter's rhythm & the defense is able to contest
🔑Pick & Roll Reads for Ball Handlers
1️⃣Set your man up
Reject if possible
2️⃣Read the hedge defender
If he backs up = pull-up jumper
If he steps up = pocket pass
3️⃣Read the corner defender
If he tags the roll = throwback
If he stays with the shooter = pocket pass
The Importance of Being Shot Ready & Making Quick Decisions
1. Be shot ready on every catch. Forces the defense to respect you.
2. Make a decision on 0.5 seconds.
3. Keep the ball hot. Make the defense play in rotation.
4. Forcing the defense to scramble leads to open shots.

Providence commit 6’4 Quante Berry is going to have a huge senior season. Shooting the ball much better from 3. Excellent in the midrange where he can stop on a dime & elevate over defenders. Really like his activity defensively

Why are academics important in the recruiting process?
By having poor grades or barely being eligible, you limit the number of schools who can and will recruit you.
How good do you want to be?
If you want to play significant minutes at the college level then putting in extra work is NONNEGOTIABLE
You will not get the minutes you want or perform at a high level consistently by doing only what's asked of you during practice. YOU MUST DO MORE
POST POSITIONING
As a post player, you want to seal your defender as deep as possible. The deeper/better your position, the easier it is for you to score.
Be in a low, strong stance & create contact with the defender. Use your butt to drive out the defender's knees.
Happy Father’s Day to my hero
@Coach_Rick57
. Thanks for your unconditional love & support. You’ve taught me how to be a good husband, work hard, live with integrity, and chase my dreams. Most importantly you’re a man of God. I’m proud to be your son. Love you pops
Great advice from Coach Cuonzo Martin.
You are going to go thru adversity as a basketball player (and in life). Use that adversity to learn & grow from it.

🗣TRAVEL COACHES
Do you want your roster to be correct in our college packets?
Tuesday morning is the last day to turn in rosters so that we can have accurate info for the packet this weekend.
If you want colleges to easily identify your kids, then this should be done ASAP.

We all know Robert Dillingham as a prolific scorer. But what has impressed me the most over the course of this season is his ability to facilitate & run the team. He creates for others & makes his teammates better.

6’9 2022 Jai Smith (Bull City Prep) has now been offered by LSU
The high motor, athletic forward continues to pick up offers after an impressive summer & fall.
Not only is he one of the hardest playing guys we’ve seen but he’s an exceptional young man.

Thoughts for Recruits:
During this time of year when college coaches are taking new jobs, it is important to understand that it doesn’t mean that your offer from the previous staff will still stand with the newly hired staff. Offers are staff specific, not school specific.
Are you willing to sacrifice for what you want to accomplish? Nothing worthwhile comes without some level of discomfort. Just know that discomfort is only temporary.
Happy birthday to the best role model in the world. Thank you for your continuous love & support. You helped mold me into the man I am today. Proud to be your son. Love you pops!
@Coach_Rick57
Appalachian State has made a priority to recruit the state of NC.
Head Coach Dustin Kerns
@CoachDKerns
in to see Jacari Brim (West Forsyth).
Assistant Coach Tanner Smith in to see Tre McKinnon (Lake Norman).
The Mountaineers have offered both Brim & McKinnon.
Every athlete needs to take notes out of Jalen Hurts' playbook. We all know his story at Alabama. Once again, he stayed ready & when he got his 1st career NFL start yesterday, he balled out.
You shouldn't have to "get" ready. You should STAY READY‼️

took the time to clean their bench. Leaving the place better than they found it. This is a special group.
There are more scholarship level players than scholarship spots.
1. What are you doing to separate yourself?
2. Don’t turn your nose away from a school because of the level.
3. The higher your academics the better your chance of being recruited.
Big weekend ahead. I look forward to seeing all the team compete at the
