We're angry at ourselves that we felt so entagled in this one option that we didn't sever ties at the first mention of abhorent labor practices & toxic intolerance.

But while everbody seems aggrieved & mourning SPD, we're seething. We're angry that this organization that did a mostly shitty job and was shitty to so many people over the years was the only option.

All this is to say we want to make changes to the publishing model going forward to reclaim the initial indie values that prompted us to give this endeavor a go in the first place.

Being affiliated with them has really only been about visibility and wider access for authors and translators' works, as the SPD fees and royalty structures were pretty oppressive/not sustaining for a super small press.

We only considered it & applied after an early author said she wanted to be on the bestsellers list and have her book taught because we listen to authors and translators.

The truth is we never wanted to be distributed by SPD because co•im•press has always been about being truly indie—free from being beholden to monolithic, monopolistic organizations.
