We are in the process of transferring ownership of our forests at Nephin, Co. Mayo into the Ballycroy National Park. Through this project the National Park will be extended and this will make one much larger and better National Park for Ireland.

Our forests and forest parks will only be open to local pedestrians from today. Carparks at all our sites are closed to the public. This is in order to facilitate citizens living within 2km of our forests provided all adhere to strict 2m #socialdistancing measures.

Forestry in Ireland has a rich history which stretches back almost 100 years. The first trials to see how different trees would grow in Ireland started in Coillte’s Avondale forest park in 1904. Since then, forest cover has grown from 1% to 11% today.
