I’m baffled by the amount of chances and leeway that is given to Emerald Fennel

Unacceptable, get him in a rom com!
Despite many fans asking to see him in more romcoms, Manny Jacinto revealed that since ‘Freakier Friday’, Hollywood has opted to offer him dad roles. “Now I think I'm getting dad roles, or dad auditions. I'm like, ‘Guys, I don't think that's me yet. I'm sorry. Let's pull it

Feels from a different era and has its missteps, but I had a better time with this than most films I’ve seen this year so far

Starting my first Clarice Lispector book. I’ll be upset if it doesn’t forever alter the course of my life or whatever like everyone says it will.

GDT is white, no? As a Mexican-American, I can understand the interpretation GDT provides, but ultimately it is still an interpretation told through a patriarchal lens. His nationality and ethnicity should inform our criticism, but it shouldn’t automatically shield him from it
Not to be CONTROVERSIAL, but I think a lot of white feminists really need to think about how they engage with BIPOC media. Just because a man made Frankenstein doesn’t mean his interpretation—his experience with generational trauma as a Latino—is suddenly invalid.

i know the whole frankenstein debate can be annoying but i've seen people who enjoyed and disliked the movie saying this conversation makes them want to read the novel for the first time and i love to see that happening. that's a win for curiosity! and "literary snobs"!

Tatsuya Nakadai was one of the most prolific actors to ever grace cinema. Few other performers are vital to as many greatest films of all time as he was. When one thinks of Japanese post-war cinema, it’s inevitably his visage, his voice, his presence that come to mind

Spike for sure, but also Cordelia, Tara, Wesley - so many amazing side character that don’t even make up the main Scoobies.

I’ve not seen many of his films, but I very much enjoyed his performance in High and Low. My condolences.

Immediately after creating the monster, Victor fell asleep and imagined himself kissing his sister/cousin, who then warped into his mother’s corpse in his embrace. Mary Shelley was very fascinated with themes of incest, sexual repression and fantasy. You should read Mathilda.
this is the second tweet i've seen about frankenstein not being perverted enough. why is that becoming a metric for anything. Why would it need to be perverted. ? do not act like this is a genuine criticism

People are obsessed with turning Mary into Shelley and Byron’s victim when it’s far from accurate. Mary shared many ideals with them, and welcomed the encouragement they gave her. To say otherwise completely erases her own agency.
people spreading rumors that the men in mary shelly’s life weren’t super supportive of her and her work is really upsetting to me. percy and lord byron were huge allies to her and encouraged her to publish her work.

Harriet killed herself years after Shelley left her because she was pregnant with another man’s child. Shelley had deep remorse for what he did to Harriet, and did his best to get custody of his children after her death. Percy was flawed, but he was not evil.

Oh, I hadn’t thought about the comparison between Pans Labyrinth and Spirt of the Beehive, but yeah. Wow.

If you want monstrous women, I actually would recommend Your Monster (2024). It’s not quite what it appears to be.

I’ll give my in depth opinions on the podcast, but I think more movies should have two Elle Fannings
Getting ready to see Predator: Badlands and am most excited for Elle Fanning. I have mixed feelings on including a Weyland-Yutani synth here, but I know she will do a great job with her performance.
