I wrote another piece for @theGrio, this time on the importance of youth voters of color at the polls.
thegrio.com
In the new Survey of Black Voters from theGrio and KFF, Black voters ages 18-29 are particularly disdainful of President Joe Biden seeking a second term.

I'm working with @theGrio on election coverage related to the views of Black voters. #BlackVotersMatter Here's the first story that published today: https://t.co/DSf4RRGluW

TheGrio/KFF Survey of Black Voters shows Black voters understand their importance as a voting bloc and the power they wield for Democrats.

I was really thrilled to write this freelance piece for @NewAmerica. Accountability for how #PublicInterestTech tools serve people and who they ultimately serve is key to ensuring accessibility and equity, especially for the most vulnerable groups.
📱 During the pandemic, #PublicInterestTech tools, like COVID exposure apps, were created. Were they worth the effort? Dana Amihere (@write_this_way) weighs in on these tools, with a focus on California's robust portfolio of software. https://t.co/FjMZO6XnHp

Sharing her personal experience with unemployment is a great example of how we can move the needle toward more engaged journalism and how we make genuine connections with audiences by being real, vulnerable and human as journalists.

People wanting more than subsistence, living paycheck to paycheck, doesn't make them lazy or mooches off government assistance. It means we need to change the system: living wages, affordable child care and not judging those who seize opportunities to better themselves.

Wrote about how several white journalists white large platforms keep avoiding to mention who exactly it is they're critiquing (Black journalists).

Prominent white writers don’t want to admit they disagree with a large number of their Black contemporaries.

Producing #Racism101 with @lovely_giuliana was one of the best experiences I've ever had as an editor. I felt like we really made an impact and started some really important convos. Visit https://t.co/qudwevQfdX to see the project. And, read about how it all unfolded:
Active participation in the racial reckoning may be waning, but convos around race are more intentional and more common. #Racism101 may be over, but it helped make talks around race more deliberate and thoughtful, says editor @write_this_way. https://t.co/sbO0Q9Q32L

Friend and former colleague @AndyJacobsohn is doing ALL the work. Support him and @DeepIndigoCo!
As newsrooms and their budgets continue to shrink, this work is vital. The launch of @DeepIndigoCo is the culmination of more than a year hard work and collaboration and I'm so happy to know @AndyJacobsohn and support his efforts. Congrats, dude. #ClimateCrisis

Thanks to @RinaPalta and @JuliaAngwin at @themarkup for bringing me on to work for the summer. Keep an eye out for some great work to drop soon. I’m also stoked for upcoming work with @thealliance_WP, who fight bias and discrimination in athletics.

A loving husband and a lovable German Shepherd mix have kept me grounded (and covered in fur) through all of this. And, I’m proud to say less than 30 days into this new unknown, I not only live to tell the tale, but I’m thriving.

As I’ve said before, I stand on the shoulders of the great, brave, women who have tread this ground before me: My mother, grandmother, aunties, sisters who’ve never wavered in their support. And, dear friends who have become like family. I wouldn't be who I am today without them.

On April 1 (ironically, April Fools’ Day), I began paperwork to start @codeblackmedia_, my new digital media and data consultancy. Within weeks, I was official. And, I was terrified of the unknown ahead.
