The inherent conflict of a Movie Poster Artist: making one still image conjure the mojo of an entire motion picture. It’s an unfair assignment. But the frozen image has its own eternal power. Struzan exploited that rectangular frame with renown mastery. In our hearts forever.

I sit in awe of Drew Struzan, contemplating his incredible life’s work. Going to the cinema, in my youth, was a waiting game. Waiting in line, for friends, for showtime, for concessions, for a ride. But time stood still before the worlds in his posters.

Thank you for remembering and amplifying Laura Nyro’s life. If only we still had her! Let’s keep her music and spirit alive.
April 8th REMEMBRANCES - In 1997 Laura Nyro, Singer-songwriter ("Wedding Bell Blues"; "Stoned Soul Picnic"; "And When I Die"), dies of ovarian cancer at 49. I won't even try to explain in this limited space the utter brilliance of Nyro's musical/songwriting talent and her

Will a Sorcerer return to set us right again, as Mickey is saved from his brazen acts, in that short film? Put down the wand and take up the mop, pencil or brush.

This moment suggests another iconic animated film. “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” from Disney’s “Fantasia,” in which Mickey Mouse usurps the Sorcerer’s magic wand, unleashing powers that threaten his destruction.

Studio Ghibli’s art direction is unified with each film’s world. That authenticity results from their team’s persistence and fearlessness at the frontier of art’s boundaries. Calling these AI images “Ghibli style” is an insult to their name.

Why is Ghibli renowned? Surely, it’s not just their peerless artistry but also the profound and generous philosophy revealed in their storytelling. The rush to Ghiblize tawdry and sensationalistic images and post them on social media is a discouraging symptom of our broken and

Drawing is one of the best ways I know to find my mind. The act of drawing bestows wonderful gifts of insight & revelation. My heart weeps to see AI appropriation of a Studio Ghibli art style. A thread.

Why is everyone so amazed that Carrie Underwood sang at the Inauguration without backing music? That’s what a singer does! 😂

The way Sarah Vaughan spoke Roy Haynes’ name, on the track Shulie A Bop, and his blazing drumming, seared his playing into my memory. Seeing him perform in Boston in the 1990s is a cherished memory. My condolences and respect go out to the Haynes family.
RIP jazz drum legend Roy Haynes, who leaves us at age 99. What an amazing career…. Along the way, he performed with John Coltrane, Lester Young, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Chick Corea, Sarah Vaughan, Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, and many, many others.

Mourning the passing of titan Quincy Jones who reached out through my little black & white tube tv’s mono speaker to plunge me into a sticky, simmering, musical concoction that percolates to this day and ever after. Grateful.

Today I express my grief and anger for the waste of lives and potential due to the unrelenting Jihadi hatred of Jewish people. This weekend’s terrorist attacks laid bare the perpetrators’ cruelty and the genocidal intent of Hamas’ supporters. Israel stands strong.
