People don’t think about their careers in a linear way But that’s how most AI career coaches think about the advice they give their users. In my recent conversation with @cliffcmaxwell, he describes how he, @BMoesta, and I designed our new #AI career coach @GetVocation to look

Starting a company is a nice path if you want to oscillate between 'WTF' and 'LFG' multiple times a week.

I built an app with Claude ~6 months ago, and am building a new one now. The number of bugs is down, the time refactoring is down, and I'm working 3-4x faster. The time to build is now!

A founder's focus on fundraising should be directly correlated to the rate at which they are approaching profitability and the increase in volatility. Volatility = customer concentration, regulatory shifts, increases in CAC, lengthening of sales cycle.

Let me beat a dead horse here - the potential of AI is when it is used to reimagine processes, ie, ways of working, rather than purely as a resource.

A key to AI & organizations in a 1977 paper: Organizations set up org structures to solve problems, but they continue to grow to address perceived roles & myths. Now, AI requires redesigning structure. If you don’t know why an organization is that way, it is hard to transform.

Some might say "but AI will eventually write the script, suggest novel characters, and come up with the story". That will happen, but I believe humanity recognizes humanity. The purest kernel of creativity and truth will always come from the creators. AI is just an accelerant.

I think Runway is the best example of what AI can do for creatives of any form. The story arc, the characters, the scene direction, lighting, etc, all come from the creator. AI then accelerates the creator's ability to bring her ideas to life. This will lead to more creation.

Unfortunately, I think founders, employees, and seed investors tend to think that mega VC rounds de-risk their equity. But instead, it's the opposite. These rounds are a major re-risking. So, is this re-risking really worth it? I think most of the time, the answer is "no".

Who is building the TurboTax/Wordpress/DIY for SaaS? There are tons of creative people who don't have technical backgrounds and work in niche spaces where SaaS would be valuable, they just don't have tooling to build. Vercel but for... completely non-tech people?

- OSes provide 90% of code for an app - Libraries provide 90% of code for an app - Third party services provide 90% of code for an app Not sure “AI writes 90% of code” is a departure from the long arc of computer science.

This is my biggest frustration with the current landscape. Perhaps the reason is that investors and analysts crave a term for the 'next big thing', but it confuses any actual analysis of what is happening inside of markets, in business models, and to the workforce. Let AI be AI.

The confusion in the marketplace over what “agents” are is even worse than the previous confusion over what “AI” is. At least with “AI” there were some definitions. Now everyone is just calling every piece of software agentic and there is no common understanding to fall back on.

Agreed 100%. The current workflow for any engineering project involves prompting LLM's to generate ever more tech-debt rich 'solutions', or cleverly writing and re-writing prompts and context to arrive at what should have been obvious from the start.

how come nobody is talking about how much shittier eng on-calls are thanks to blind integrations of AI-generated code? LLMs are great coders but horrible engineers. no, the solution is not “prompt the LLM to write more documentation and tests” (cont.)

Last week when my son was sick at home, I spun up an LLM with the prompt "I am a 10 year old, and I would like to learn Algebra. Please teach me concept by concept until I learn the whole subject". He was actively engaged for 3-4 hours. I'm incredibly bullish on AI in education.

More evidence that a well prompted LLM can help learning from a randomized controlled trial at Harvard: “here we show that students learn more than twice as much in less time with an AI tutor compared to an active learning classroom, while also being more engaged and motivated.”

So long as AI is viewed as an efficiency tool, its prospects will be limited. There is not a necessary link between efficiency and economic growth or market development. A law firm that can fire a few associates now that they have AI doesn't automatically mean it can take on more

Working on an MVP with image models - would love to know what the best open-source model right now is for overlaying textures, ie texture mapping? Doesn't even have to be 2D to 3D, could be 2D to 2D texture mapping

It's commonly shared that the best founders are the best storytellers. For context, consider that over a billion dollars has been spent to produce LOTR films, shows, and other adaptations, with more films getting announced just this week. One person's (Tolkien) story has been

AI's potential is greater when viewed not as a resource, but a process. It's not just a tool to get work done, it can reinvent the process of work itself. Best articulations of this I've seen is @joshgans on system-level design and @sarahtavel on selling 'work'. Others?
