I've spent so far three hours today making my own Venn diagram Python package because none of the existing ones did exactly what I wanted. Tbf it was a lot of fun 😅

Leg 1/3 of my long trip from Kalymnos to Seattle for IEEE #PESGM24. The first leg was thankfully unaffected by the Microsoft outage, if only I could say the same for the second… Assuming I make it, let me know if you would like to connect / catch up.

I love fun demand pick-up facts. Really illustrates the human-behavior component of electricity use.
🦁 See how national demand for electricity fluctuated during last night’s Netherlands vs England game at #EURO2024 ⚽ We experienced demand increase by 1GW due to the TV pick up effect as the nation grabbed their half time refreshments. 📈 As the second half kicked off demand

Great performance by the Electric-Stampede team (including myself, Hussein Sharadga, @kyrib @clcrozier) in the event 3 of @ARPAE Grid Optimization challenge. Our @CockrellSchool led team ranked third in the total score. #energy #optimization #powergrid

Excited to announce that this Fall I will move to Georgia Tech @GeorgiaTechISyE as an Assistant Professor. My research group will work on operation and planning of decarbonized electricity systems, particularly with the integration of flexible loads like electric vehicles.

One of the worst parts of living in the US is how hard it is to acquire a 3kW kettle. Waiting seconds for my water to boil is a dim and distant memory

My phone has started shifting it’s charging demand to align with “clean energy” Amazing the amount of push back people have to the idea of doing this with electric cars, yet your phone might have started doing it already.

This is what EPCs should be. Heat loss calculation, plain and simple.

Over-sized electric vehicle batteries are wasteful. Instead of continuing to increase battery sizes to combat range anxiety, why can't we make the batteries swappable? Then, rather than buying a huge battery for a once-a-year road trip, you could rent a bigger battery.

This thread is already excessively long, so pls read full paper for full details. We also include a list to our demand data sources and I am ⚡️RELEASING⚡️ the synchronized, cleaned(ish) 2019 data for download on my website:

We also found that the value, was often unevenly split between the two regions. In fact, often only one of the parties would see a reduction in storage requirements. We didn't find any decisive predictors, but in general the larger region at higher latitude benefitted more
